I had a dream we lived in a universe whose fundamental mechanics were compatible with the requirements for multicellular organisms to flourish within a relatively stable tectonic cycle. In that dream, I saw deep into the past, and deep into the future. I saw beauty...Experiencing beauty requires no belief in arcane fairytales laden with barbaric ignorance. It can simply come from observing nature’s examples of nearly perfect adaptations. Evolution sculpting countless magnificent creatures. Our planet is on fire, but I spend a lot of time reading about its fascinating 4.6-billion-year history. I find comfort in the idea that it will be here long after we destroy ourselves. I only hope a few of my favorite creature designs make it through the bottleneck of the Anthropocene Extinction to drive post-human species radiation into our planet’s final billion years.
