Jay Ramirez is a Chicago-based illustrator, animator, and character designer.
The work starts with a point of view. Characters should feel like they've been somewhere. Illustrations should have a reason to exist beyond filling space. Motion should feel inevitable, not decorative. That's the philosophy. Let’s make things that earn their place on the screen, the page, or the wall.
Jay has been making weird, considered, and funny art in Chicago for over twenty years. His clients include the Chicago Bungalow Association, Black Spectacles, and Rate.com. His work spans editorial illustration, character design, motion graphics, explainer animation, and brand identity, with a healthy obsession with texture, eye trace, and getting the typography right.
He also writes illustrated short stories about monsters and weirdos, which is either a natural extension of the above or the whole point, depending on when you ask him.
